Borrow in the Sunshine

At last summer seems to be upon us. Temperatures are rising and many people's thoughts turn to leisure time and how they are going to spend the warmer months of the year. Many will look forward to a well deserved holiday, while some will prefer to remain at home and catch up on all those plans that were unsuitable during the winter. The reasons people cite for taking out a loan are varied but the most prevalent reasons remain consistent. Debt consolidation is usually the number one loan reason, followed by car purchases and home improvement funding. Loans of these three types are not usually small. A typical debt consolidation loan can amount to several thousand pounds with some loans totalling over £20,000.

But looking beyond those top loans you'll soon find a wider range of reasons which contain all kinds of purposes dedicated to personal enjoyment rather than financial necessity. For example holiday loans are a frequent choice of middle-aged applicants who have promised themselves the holiday of a lifetime at a certain point in their lives. Perhaps they are approaching retirement or nearing a significant birthday and that 3 week trip to Australia is beckoning. Holiday loans are popular because the timing of holidays is important and if your finances are not quite up to the job of paying for that holiday when the time arises, then people are faced with either postponing the trip for another year or taking out a loan to help them bridge the gap in their short-term finances.

Other people take out loans to pay for weddings or birthday celebrations, while the real leisure animals may be buying a boat, jetski, hangglider, cycle or new diving equipment. Other expensive hobbies that could require finance in the form of a loan include hi-fi equipment, art collecting and perhaps paying for an expensive new wardrobe.

We're sure that if you put your mind to it you could come up with all kinds of reasons for taking out a loan and bringing forward that desired purchase. Of course some caution should be applied; we're not encouraging anyone to take out a loan to buy a host of desired items without thinking carefully about whether they can really afford them. Loan repayments will still need to be met and the enjoyment of a purchase can soon fade if the new loan puts you into financial difficulties. But summer is here so have some fun!
